July 2015 Monthly Income Report

This month I really tried to give myself permission to enjoy summer. I often have a harder time slowing down compared to speeding up. I took Fridays off and went into work “late.”

It was great!

Private Practice and Consulting Highlights

Here are some things I did in July 2015:

  • We had friends in town from Washington D.C., New York, Texas, Washington, and Kalamazoo.
  • I took every Friday off and tried to not check email or social media from noon on Friday until Sunday morning, then hardly at all on Sunday. It was really refreshing to try and get my head out of “work mode.”
  • On Saturday mornings I took some time to find some reading for myself, I really enjoyed the book: The Wisdom of No Escape and the Path of Loving-Kindness
  • I launched the How to Become a Consultant Podcast. July weeks included Pat Flynn, Chris Ducker, and John Lee Dumas.
  • I started spotlighting member’s of the Practice of the Practice Community (PoP Culture).
  • I had over 100 people sign up to get the pre-invite to The Consultant School. I’m going to be launching a Mastermind Group, Q/A webinar, and e-course all around the theme of how to become a consultant. I think I’m only going to have 12 spots for the first round of “Founders.”
  • I started posting 2-3x per week because of Michael Hyatt’s awesome book: Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World
  • I developed some tools specifically for people that are starting a private practice.
  • I added several new private practice consulting clients.
  • We’ve been renovating our basement, so our house is a construction zone. I found some fun old pictures.
  • Since it’s summer in Traverse City, I spent a lot of time on the beach with my family.

My social workers/photographer friend, Aaron. He wanted to try to take the cliche photo of a dock.

Campfire with our friend, Mo. Summer livin’!

Found this photo from my freshman year of college. Funny my hair was bigger than my Busia’s hair.

Found a ton of my old Star Wars stuff while cleaning our basement!

July 2015 Earning Report

What I’m going to be reporting about how to make extra money and what I’m not going to be reporting

Private Practice

I do 9-10 sessions a week in my private practice. I don’t take insurance, so it is private-pay. As a result, I don’t have many expenses in time or actual money. I also do consulting with private practice clinicians and supervision for LLPCs in Michigan (Limited Licensed Professional Counselors), a 100 hour requirement in Michigan.

Passive Income

The term “passive” makes it sound like I don’t have to do work. What I mean is money that I make that is not in direct exchange for my time. I will outline what these are under each item.

Time Study

In March 2015 I started also looking at how much time I spend working, then I’ll figure out my weekly average. I want to compare this to my old schedule, where I worked 40+ hours and also did 15 or so with the private practice/consulting. I do my best to report this, but sometimes based on time, I just report the income.

Private Practice Expenses

For a while I have been getting emails about my expenses. It’s not been something that I had a clear handle on, so I didn’t want to inaccurately report them. I am going to report my major expenses each month. Thus the two Monthly Income Reports from January/February will be slightly inflated/deflated based on this new measure. March 2015 Monthly Income Report for Private Practice was the first month I started doing this.

Private Practice: $4,343.63

Other counselors: In 2015 we launched the Addictions Treatment: Intensive Recovery Program, which has started to bring in more clients that need additions help. I have four counselors that work for my Traverse City counseling private practice as 1099 contractors and I get a portion of what is brought in. In the past I reported just my portion, but I’m going to be reporting the gross sales that came in: $7,335.34

Paperwork Packet: $275

Consulting: (this sometimes includes building a website as part of the private practice coach session) I do private practice coaching. Usually there are three parts to private practice consulting:

  • A SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) Analysis
  • Website Evaluation and Tips
  • Consulting: developing a niche within the private practice, building stronger referrals, increasing rates, and launching products to grow income
  • I’m also growing my Consultant-to-Consultants side of my consulting (say that 10x fast!)
