I had no idea what I was doing when I started my counseling private practice. Isn’t that most of our experiences? We go to grad school, get great clinical training, and then we’re thrown out into the work world. We usually have classes on groups, non-profit management, just about everything but the business of running a private practice.

That’s about to change!

If you’re a group private practice owner with big ideas and you struggle with launching them (and actually making money from them), then working with me, Joe Sanok, might just be for you. Are you sick of exchanging time doing counseling for money? Do you have big ideas inside you? Maybe you struggle with how to make a podcast, e-course, or national keynote.

You’re in the right place if you want to:

These are just a few of the topics I love talking about!

I’m Joe Sanok.

In 2012 I launched Practice of the Practice to blog about what I was learning about business, marketing, and private practice. Since then, my income has gone up over 2,000%. In the beginning, I was making around $1000 per month. In 2015, I grossed over $200k!

In 2019, I sold my private practice. I’m a keynote and TEDx speaker, business consultant, and podcaster. I have the #1 podcast for counselors, The Practice of the Practice Podcast. With interviews with Pat Flynn, John Lee Dumas, and Lewis Howes.

I am also a writer for PsychCentral, and have been featured on the Huffington Post, Forbes, GOOD Magazine, Reader’s Digest, Entrepreneur on Fire, and Yahoo News. I am the author of Thursday is the New Friday, and have been named a top Therapist Resource for my podcast, blogging, and consultant services.

My approach incorporates story, humor, research, and practical application.

“Joe offers thorough and practical paths for real people to create a rare and inspired life of success and fulfillment.” – Gen Morley

I started Practice of the Practice because when I completed grad school, I knew nothing about business. I have learned, read, and struggled to get my private practice going. I want to share what I’ve learned to save you time. Also, I’ve invited some friends to share what they have learned. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we don’t. I want you to hear a variety of opinions.

I don’t believe that counselors should feel that there is competition, rather, as we grow the field of counseling, we will grow the need for counselors.

There are three themes you will see through what I’ve learned:

Optimizing a group practice to free up time to work on big ideas.

Identifying the best specialty, growing an audience, and creating income from big ideas.

Quickly determining the best technology solutions to scale and free up time.

My private practice story

Growing my business and yours
